We are so pleased to announce that Gayle McLaughlin of the California Progressive Alliance will be our featured speaker at our celebration. This former Mayor and councilwoman of Richmond traveled the state as a candidate for Lt. Governor this year's primary election and found progressives throughout California who wanted to know how the Richmond Progressive Alliance had succeeded! Thus, the CA Progressive Alliance was born. She was endorsed by OUR REVOLUTION and visited the IE during her tour.
McLaughlin's election in 2006 made Richmond the largest U.S. city to be led by a Green Party member. She has led a spirited pursuit of progressive policies including a minimum wage increase and a widely reported plan to forcibly appropriate foreclosed home mortgages from banks. Most famously, she has led an ongoing effort to restrict the municipal influence of Richmond's largest employer, the Chevron Corporation, and to refashion its environmental obligations.

Catalina's List was inspired by “Sister Giant,” a political event by Marianne Williamson, with a call to action for women to participate in politics towards gender parity so that we could finally address some of the United States' “dirty little secrets” with UNAPOLOGETICALLY PROGRESSIVE solutions.
Founders Leticia Garcia, Jocelyn Sida, and Bobbi Jo Chavarria, established Catalina's List to find a new kind of political candidate and support team to answer that call in the Inland Empire.
Our mission has been clear since 2012: identify, recruit, train, and support women to participate in politics to grow a long-term, progressive grassroots movement. From learning about civic engagement, lobbying on issues, to running for elected and appointed seats in the Inland Empire, Catalina's List members have worked to get involved in ways they hadn't considered before, in sisterhood and with power.
Through it all, we remain focused on the moral imperative of addressing these systemic issues at the municipal, county and state levels:
◊ Pervasive poverty
◊ Our tremendous mass incarceration rate
◊ The influence of money in politics and therefore, policy
◊ The tragic consequences of gun violence in our communities, and
◊ Environmental justice towards restoration and sustainability
We know that women in leadership can and will make a positive difference.
