INLAND EMPIRE SUMMIT PLANNING CONFERENCE CALL
with Antonio Gonzalez of the William C. Velasquez Institute
and CATALINA's LIST and members of the PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE
March 4th -- 7:15 pm
RSVP required for call-in information.
Catalina’s List is pleased to work with the William C. Velasquez Institute to hold an Inland Empire Leaders’ Progressive Summit in early April.
The goal of the Inland Empire discussion and subsequent summit will be to form a local coalition for
1) community education on the economic and social justice components of progressive issues around violence, workers' rights, drug policy, poverty, homelessness, immigration reform, mass incarceration, and more.
2) a two-year civic engagement campaign for the 2016 election; and
3) creating a long-term base-building plan to lobby, fight for successful implementation of progressive policy changes, and the election of social justice allies to local, state and national offices.
Last November 2014, an event regarding DRUG POLICY REFORM was held in Los Angeles with leaders from around the state with a goal to form a local coalition in support of a to-be-developed 2016 initiative regarding regulation, taxation and decriminalization of cannabis.
On February 20th, Catalina's List invited a small group of progressive allies to attend a discussion centering around drug policy reform. Time for Change representatives provided information on the implementation and outreach for Proposition 47; Vonya Quarles of Starting Over Inc. and Riverside All of Us Or None talked on systemic racism in the "injustice" system, and Catalina's List provided context and election results of Prop 47 (voted on in 2014) and Prop 19 (in 2010) demonstrating the need for effective policy discussion and civic engagement in the Inland Empire.
